Dumpster Diva - Here to help with all your dumpster rental questions!

Welcome to the Dumpster Diva blog site ... where we delve into dumpster dismay or distress and dig up delightful direction to dispel delusions and dispense drivel on dumpster delivery ~ and more.

The primary objective for this blog will be to discuss topics that you ask about most often so that we can provide you with helpful information and resources about Tampa dumpster rentals.

For those of you who are curious, here is a little history about dumpsters!  The word dumpster was coined in the 1930s for a Dempster-Dumpster trash-hauling mechanism patented by the Dempster Brothers. The whole trash handling industry has evolved a great deal, and leave it to those clever Greeks, Romans and Mayans to organize garbage collection centuries ago. Athenians developed the first municipal disposal site requiring citizens to dump trash at least one mile from the city limits. The Romans established a collection system with two men and a wagon, and the Mayans had some issues as their waste sites occasionally exploded and burned.

In the US, lots of garbage was burned, dumped in the ocean or left in the streets, and some people dug refuse pits for their household trash. Benjamin Franklin initiated the first street cleaning service in 1757 in Philadelphia. Not much advanced in waste management until the mid 20th century when prosperity soared, generating more consumerism and associated rubbish. The first recommended national guidelines were published in 1953, and 17 years later, Congress began to emphasize recycling, resource recovery and conversion of waste to energy.  Locally, Pinellas County has a waste to energy plant, check it out, & see what they do!  http://www.pinellascounty.org/solidwaste/wte.htm

Today, the best way to manage trash from a storm, fire, renovation, building an addition, house clean out, basement and garage cleanup, replacing siding or a remodel project is to rent a dumpster from Bin There Dump That because [... drum roll ...], the company employees have "been there done that" themselves with home renovation and clean out projects.

A few facts about trash!
Average person throws away 4.5 pounds of trash each day
Trash in the U.S. every day can fill 63,000 garbage trucks
More than 25% of daily trash is packaging
60 million water bottles are tossed out daily

  1. Soon I am planning on cleaning out my mom's house. This might be a really big project, because she keeps just about everything, so we will have plenty to throw away. It would be really great to get a dumpster to rent, because then we wouldn't have to worry about running out of space in her regular trash can. It sounds like after reading your article that this would probably be the best idea. Do you have any suggestions on what size of dumpster would be best for a project like this? http://www.tcmdumpsters.com

  2. Julie, you are not alone in asking, what size dumpster do I need?..., we help people with the same question every week for home clean outs, estate clean outs, downsizing and many other projects. Since each home project can differ in size or square footage, type of junk or debris to be cleaned out, location space for a dumpster rental, etc. We have found that it is best to understand your specific needs, location, & debris or junk to be removed to best answer that question.

You may also want to check out a new page we recently put up under our "services" tab. This page is dedicated to choosing a dumpster size with some examples of projects & debris for each size we have available.
